June Favourites | 2014 ❤

The last month's favourite I did was in November, I have missed it! I come back this month with a few varieties - clothing, literature, television and music!

Like I mentioned on my last post, My First (Mini) Haul, there's one piece of clothing I have been absolutely loving - a crop top from ZARA.
I don't (usually) mind showing my belly, but if you aren't that comfortable or you simply don't like this style you can pair it with some high waisted jeans/shorts :)
It's soo comfy and I adore the contrast of the pink hearts with the grey background. Crop tops are a must have this summer and I have definitely fallen in love with this one.

Moving on to literature, I watched the movie Revolutionary Road (starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet) last year/beginning of this year and when I found out it was based on Richard Yates' novel I made it my mission to read the book. With the amount of university work I have had I only now got the chance to finish reading it but it was definitely worth my time!
I have recommended it to so many people and I even wrote an essay about it for university based on its' love-hate relationship. It's basically about an American couple living in the mid-1950s who aren't living the life they have dreamt of and are still trying to work on their personal problems. It is so beautifully written that I finished reading it and immediately felt I wanted more. I will definitely re-read it when I have the chance.

The movie stays true to the book so I will leave the trailer incase you want to watch that too.

Still on the subject of television, I have a new favourite series, Penny Dreadful! It is classified as horror but I haven't really got any jump scares so far, or nightmares for that matter. If you are easily scared like myself and horror isn't your cup of tea, fear not because if I can watch it so can you! The only thing is that sometimes it gets a little creepy and bloody - my solution is to always watch it during day time and with my boyfriend haha.

The reason that I love it, though, is because it combines the story of the novels of the Victorian era classified as "penny dreadfuls", such as Frankenstein, Dracula and Dorian Gray. I studied some of those works this year in university so seeing them "in action" is really exciting.

I won't link the trailer because I watched it before the first episode and it makes the series look scarier than it actually is. My recommendation is: watch the first episode and then decide if you want more!

To finalize, the only song I had on repeat this month is from Ed Sheeran's new album, x, and it is called 'Thinking Out Loud'.

Happy Sunday! x

Metal Night

A Portuguese garage band contest had been happening every Saturday of this month and every weekend a band would be chosen out of four to participate in the final that took place this Saturday the 29th or, more precisely, yesterday.

I went to one of the playoffs on the 15th with my boyfriend and a friend of ours but we only listened to two of the four bands that were competing before calling it a night. All the antecipation and excitement were confined to the final as there would play a special guest that we all knew and wanted to be there for, Hills Have Eyes; specially two friends of my boyfriend and I.
The night was cold and there was barely anyone in the streets - that is, until the start of the contest. Nearing its' hour, groups of friends started to gather around the entrance and waited until every thing was ready. We had to pay an admission to enter and they stamped our hands so they knew who had already payed incase we wanted to go outside.
There's a bar, a TV with a sofa close by and a few tables with chairs for us to sit around on the second floor whilst the actual contest (and every show for that matter) takes place in the third floor.

There were five bands competing between each other and before the announcement of the winner we heard Hills Have Eyes, the special guest that night! It. was. bloody. brilliant. If you don't like this type of music (metal) you possibly won't understand my happiness and will cringe at the music but I absolutely love it. I suppose the best thing about the concerts of this type of bands is that I always feel a sense of companionship amongst everyone. If someone falls, everyone helps them up. There's even people crowdsurfing! That's mental.

I recorded some of it on my phone but the sound quality is rubbish and, unfortunately, there aren't any videos up of the event itself so I will link to you the music video of the song I most liked from this band.
The winner were Stone Dead incase you want to search them up.

Oh and here's a small video on my instagram of the crowdsurfing: http://instagram.com/p/mKiX_BlaQQ/#

November Favourites | 2013 ❤

November was so busyyy, I need a break! Unfortunately the only break I'm going to have is going to be spent studying for my future exams, boohoo.

Amidst all the books, essays and exams, I met Carolina Torres. Who? Oh, just the funniest and nicest girl ever.
(Carolina (L) and me (R))
She participated in 'Ídolos' back in 2009 (a Portuguese reality show based on the British show 'Pop Idol'), she was a presenter in 'Curto Circuito' (Portuguese talk show) and now she's part of a rock/punk rock band, THE GIRL IN THE BLACK BIKINI.
She went to my university to play with her band (or part of it) in order to support the E list (candidate to the student association and the one that ended up winning, obviously). I was really happy to meet her and blown away by how nice she is! She asked me what I was studying there and I told her I was taking Language, Literature and Culture or, more specifically, English and North-American Studies. She told me she would have liked to have taken that course which, of course, made me smile.

The last favourite of this month is also related to my university. Our grades go from 0 (awful) to 20 (excellent) and I managed to score a 19 on my English essay!
I was honestly surprised, I wasn't expecting to have such a high score - yay me! (hopefully more will follow).

September Favourites | 2013 ❤

September, the first month of fall and classes and the last one of summer and holidays.

This month started a whole new chapter for me: university.
The sunset on my way home from university.
I took a year off in between high school and uni and this year I was prepared for everything and anything. Although taking one year off was one of the best decisions I have ever made, it was also one of the most risky. Having my friends studying or working, I usually caught myself depressing over silly things because, well, I had nothing else to do. Ever since joining uni, I have been the happiest girl ever.

University has a different vibe to high school. You are there because you want to, nobody is forcing you to be there. Tired of listening to your teacher? Pack your things and go. You're late? Just sneak in and take a seat. Tired of being judged? Forget that, you will find the nicest people in university (talking about personal experience, I'm sorry if your uni isn't like that!).

In Portugal, we have this thing called 'praxe' (a tradition) which is a set of initiation rituals freshmen have to go through to lose their social inhibitions and easily intrigate into university. You aren't obliged to attend them and that's good because in some universities the veterans (students from the 2nd year or higher) are really rude to you.

I used to be against 'praxe' because I had heard they made you do horrible things but my university made me change my mind. The veterans were super nice to us and were always concerned, making sure we were ok. We played games, had a laugh and socialized. I'm glad I decided to attend it!

Besides university, the other thing I have been in love with are my new black jeans! I bought them early in the month and I have been styling them with everything.
They have a snakeskin effect, it feels so good to touch them! (weirdo)

And that's everything for this month! I have high expectations for October, it's my birthday on the 28th, yey!!

August Favourites ❤

Oh August, you will always be my favourite month of the summer.
(Source)
I only had one favourite this month and that was enough because I was and still am obsessed with it. I've always loved to take photos and film so I thought it would be a good idea to get an editing program so I can play around with what I've got.

I know there are better ones but I downloaded Movie Maker as it seemed to be easy to use for a newbie like myself. I successfully edited 2 videos of my friends and they absolutely loved it, which made me really happy! I haven't had anything to edit in weeks which is frustrating, argh.

July Favourites ❤

Another month has gone by, time to to ramble about my favourites! First time I write a post about this so go easy on me.

July was a good month for me, I would say. It offered me new experiences, brought me closer to my friends and it has made me grow. If only every month was like this!

  • Fashion:
- My old sandals died on me and I was forced to buy new ones. The new ones I bought are the cutest thing I have ever seen, I fell in love as soon as I laid my eyes on them! They are super comfy and they have a little bow in the middle.

Unfortunately the weather hasn't been that great lately so I was only able to use them a few times. I wore them to my aunt's wedding, more on that here.

  • Series:
- I know this serie isn't new, it's already over and probably everyone has already seen it but I've only started watching it this month and I'm in l-o-v-e! The drama, the suspense, the plot twists, the romance... everything is so intense! I'm obviously talking about 'Prison Break' and if like me, you've never watched it before, do it!! But only if you have a strong heart.

  • Music:
- This is a hard one for me considering I am a music lover but I will try my best to pick just one or two favourites each month, I don't want to bore you!
Out of 4 favourites this month, 2 of them were my obsessions - 'Through Glass' by Stone Sour and 'Ready to Go' by Limp Bizkit ft. Lil Wayne. Give them a listen when you can!

  • Random:
- My local fair opened this month and I went there 3 times - one with my mother and a friend of hers and the other 2 with my friends. I wrote a post about the first day here and I know I said I'd write another one if I went there again but, in all honesty, there wasn't anything else interesting to show you. And I was with my friends, I didn't even think about anything besides having fun (please don't hate me!)
To make up for it, here's a photo of one of the concerts we watched (More Than A Thousand), it was unreal! We are somewhere in there to the right!

That's everything this month! What were your July favourites?!

Favourite Song of the Month | June

I don't go a day without listening to music. I take my MP4 everywhere with me and I have some of my favourite songs on my phone, just in case. If there's nothing good to watch on the telly, I change to a music channel. I even write down my favourite lyrics. I guess you could say I'm addicted to music, but it's not like it is harmful, right? In fact, life would be much better with our own soundtrack!

Keeping that in mind, it was only wise to share my favourite song of each month with you. I'm going to warn you that my choice can vary from metal to pop because I love the music, not the genre, unlike some people. I could never restrain myself to only one genre.

My favourite song of last month, June, was recorded 7-8 months ago (according to sources) but we only just found out about it. The song is called 'Don't Let Me Go' and it's sang by Harry Styles, from One Direction, featuring Sam McCarthy. The lyrics are beautiful and his voice is really soothing, I had it on replay.

Turn up the volume, close your eyes and listen to this masterpiece :)

Do you like this song? What was your favourite song last month? x
